Discussion of antimicrobial treatment and other problems for bacterial diabetic foot infections

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: analyzing the properties of bacterial diabetic foot infections and antimicrobial treatment. METHODS: collecting the information of 60 cases with bacterial diabetic foot infections, analyzing the properties of causative pathogens and antimicrobial drugs used. RESULTS:81.67% cases(49/60) received system antimicrobial drug treatments. Antimicrobial drug included 10 categories and 28 kinds, and these drugs were used 124 courses. Cefoperazone/sulbctam, metronidazole and ceftriaxone were used most frequently. 63.64% cases’ pathogen culture was positive, staphylococcus aureus, klebsiella pneumoniae, enterococcus faecalis and other 5 kinds pathogens were found. After treatment, 37 cases were cured. 23 cases were improved. CONCLUSION: Bacterial diabetic foot infections are polymicrobic. Most patients were involved in advanced age and several organs compromised especial kidney. Antimicrobial regimen should be introduced on the bases of these properties, bactericidal drugs are preferred and in combination with another Antimicrobial drug.
